Retail Planning for Mother's and Father's Day

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day may not be until early summer, but January is the time to start planning a retail print campaign to get the most out of these consumer-heavy holidays. Here are a few things to consider:

A HELPFUL REMINDER

As school lets out and summer kicks into gear, it can be easy to get distracted from holidays that fall on a different date every year (Mother’s Day is the second Sunday in May, and Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June).

Vibrant posters and standalone displays are a great way to keep customers in the loop and encourage them to think about mom or dad while shopping. To get more people into the store, direct mail pieces or eye-catching fleet graphics can provide a helpful reminder that customers will appreciate regardless of whether or not they shop at your store.

IT PAYS TO PLAY

If you’re on the fence about investing in a print campaign for yet another retail holiday, consider this: In 2017, combined spending on Mother’s and Father’s Day was estimated at a whopping $39.1 billion in the United States. That’s $23.6 billion spent on moms and $15.5 billion spent on dads.

The cost of a printed store décor campaign or window graphic is a small price to pay for a bigger slice of that multi-billion-dollar pie. Plus, specialized graphics will make every trip to your location a new experience for loyal customers.

MATERIALS vs. EXPERIENCES

Consumer spending habits tend to differ significantly depending on who they're shopping for. Mothers historically receive tangible gifts such as jewelry, clothing, flowers, and meals. Fathers often get experiential gifts such as event tickets or gift cards to a favorite place. You know your customers better than anybody else, and a printed POP & Promotion campaign is a great way to target those demographics well before the season ends.

CREATE A DESTINATION

One thing moms and dads have in common is that, above all else, they want to spend time with their families on their special day. Whether it's windows, walls, doors, floors, or anything in between, print graphics are a great way to transform ordinary retail spaces into charming destinations for those family-friendly Sundays.
